Tony Robbins made this statement in his interview on episode 37 of Tim Ferriss’s podcast (paraphrased): “Your quality of life depends on your ability to create value.”
Value can mean any number of things, i.e. there is immeasurable value in individuals regardless of their abilities on a mental or physical level.
Most of us have no physical or mental constraints. Life becomes about one of three things:
- How can I squeeze all I can from everyone around me?
- How can I blame everyone around me for all the crap that happens to me and my inability to figure out success?
- How can I add value to other people’s lives?
In other words, in items one or two, we use other people as stepping stones or excuses.
In item three, we serve.
In item three, we create and add value to others.
In item three, we notice what people need and we leverage our gifts to help make it happen.
In item three, we help as many people get what they want. As a consequence, we’ll get what we need and perhaps a few things we want (tip o’ the cap to Mr. Ziglar there).
In item three, we breathe life into the world while in the other two, we suck life out of it.
Where did you create value today? How can you create value tomorrow?
